Vote for a cover -- is this better?

Is this cover better than the one that I designed?  What do you think?  A friend made it.  I love it, but I wanted to see what you thought of it.

    Much better! The purple was a little garish but this looks much more professional. Congrats on all the good progress :)

    I think its a little better but it seems a little too grayish/dull. Not sure what it's missing.

    Christina Dodd's Scent of Darkness book has an overlay of a warm color maybe that might work with the image cover to bring out a little color.
